ABOUT THE TEAM.

Fort Belvoir Sonic Boom Track Club competes locally and nationally

with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and United States of America Track and Field (USATF). Over the years, Sonic Boom has developed athletes who have gone on to win 15 National Championships, medal at the national level and compete at the collegiate level. Sonic Boom Track Club was established by Coach Richard Herman in 1999. The track club was started to assist local military high school athletes in securing scholarships through competitive track and field. Based upon the mobility of military families, a strong track program provided a foundation for the athletes to develop. As a result of strong interest in the club and a supportive Garrison Commander, COL Williams, who saw the value of the program, the club became a part of Fort Belvoir Youth Services in 2000 and became Fort Belvoir Sonic Boom Track Club. The club has grown from its infancy of six athletes to over 130 athletes at its highest peak.
